Waste Management Welcomes Community to Discussions and Meetings about Environmental Project

Simi Valley, October 30, 2009 - Waste Management is pleased to announce that the community is welcome to the November 7 Open House at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center (SVLRC).

The Open House will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the SVLRC and will include:

  • Guided tours for an up-close look at the facility and proposed modernization and expansion

  • Bounce house and activities for kids

  • A demonstration of the falcons and birds of prey that the Simi Valley Landfill team uses to control seagulls

  • Take a picture in a WM trash truck

  • A tour of the Pollinator Garden

"We are very excited to have the community come to the site and get their questions answered about our proposed project," said Lisa Hemenway, Community Relations Manager for Waste Management in Ventura County. "Our project benefits the community in so many ways and we look forward to sharing that information with the families throughout the area."

The Open House is part of Waste Management’s large-scale outreach effort to encourage community involvement in the proposed upcoming modernization and expansion of the Simi Valley facility.

Waste Management provides Ventura County with recycling, trash hauling and solid waste disposal through G.I. Industries and the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center. Waste Management has owned and operated G.I. Industries since 1998 and the SVLRC site since 1983 and employs more than 230 people in Ventura County. The SVLRC provides approximately 60% of Ventura County's daily refuse disposal needs.
