Waste Management Welcomes Community to Discussions and Meetings about Environmental Project
Simi Valley, October 21, 2009 - Waste Management recently announced the release by Ventura County of the environmental review documents for the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center Modernization and Expansion proposal. Now, the company is encouraging all Ventura County residents to participate in WM-sponsored meetings and discussions about the future plans to the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center.
"Public input is so important to those of us at Waste Management involved in this landfill modernization and expansion effort," said Mike Smith, Waste Management’s Director of Operations. "So that everyone can see the facts about the project for themselves, we’ve also posted the EIR on our website at: www.KeepingVenturaVountyClean.com ."
Waste Management invites all residents in Ventura County, especially folks living in Simi Valley, to WM-organized public meetings. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Meeting dates and times are below:
Wednesday, September 28 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm at the Grand Vista Hotel in Simi ValleyDifferent "environmental topics stations" will be set up throughout the meeting room, with experts knowledgeable about issues discussed in the environmental review documents, including water, air, traffic, odor and dust.
Saturday, November 7 at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling CenterLandfill tours will be available for an up close look at the project; experts will be onsite to answer your questions and concerns. Kids can participate in a craft activity and have their picture taken in a new LNG trash truck.

Waste Management provides Ventura County with recycling, trash hauling and solid waste disposal through G.I. Industries and the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center. Waste Management has owned and operated G.I. Industries since 1998 and the SVLRC site since 1983 and employs more than 230 people in Ventura County. The SVLRC provides approximately 60% of Ventura County's daily refuse disposal needs. The company operates a "green power" program at the site that generates enough power for 2,500 homes, and clean-burning LNG powers 38 of its trucks.
