SIMI VALLEY RESIDENTS CAN DROP OFF UNWANTED ITEMS AT THE ANNUAL FREE CLEAN UP DAY
Simi Valley, May 4, 2010 - Simi Valley city and unincorporated area residents are invited to drop off their extra trash and bulky items free of charge and donate “gently used” items at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center on Sunday, May 16th. The Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center has once again partnered with Goodwill Industries of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties and will accept gently used items and electronic waste at the free day event.
“Waste Management is always looking for opportunities to reduce the amount waste that enters the landfill and partnering with Goodwill means that we’re also helping local residents during these tough economic times,” said Mike Smith, Director of Operations for Waste Management of Ventura County.
The Simi Valley Free Day event will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Residents can bring non-hazardous, residential trash and greenwaste and construction and demolition materials for recycling. Household hazardous waste will not be accepted. Please click here for a full list of non-acceptable items and information where these items can be properly disposed.
Goodwill will be accepting unwanted electronic waste, including televisions, computers, and monitors at this event. For a complete list of Goodwill’s wish list, please click here.
To help minimize delays, Waste Management requests that visits to the landfill follow these guidelines:
- Be ready with valid identification to show proof of residency to cashier.
- All loads must be tarped pursuant to California State Law.
- All loads are subject to inspection.
- All commercial vehicles are subject to applicable rates unless prior arrangements have been made.
To encourage recycling efforts and reduce the amount of waste entering the landfill, designated areas and containers will be available for easy recycling. There will be separate unloading areas for concrete, asphalt, greenwaste, and construction and demolition waste. Containers will be available to drop-off and recycle metal items, paper and cardboard.
The next round of events is for Thousand Oaks residents on Saturday, June 12 at Conejo Creek Park - South in Thousand Oaks. The Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center is located at 2801 Madera Road in Simi Valley.
