SIMI VALLEY LANDFILL AND RECYCLING CENTER
CELEBRATES TWO-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF
CONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION FACILITY

Simi Valley, February 26, 2010 - The Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center (SVLRC) will commemorate the opening of its Construction and Demolition (C&D) Recycling Facility. The facility just celebrated an astonishing achievement of recycling over 81,800 tons of C&D materials in two years alone.

In 2008, we recycled over 40,700 tons of materials for beneficial re-use.  Over the last two years, we have recycled an astonishing 81,800 tons!

“Waste Management is proud to be the preferred disposal resource for construction and demolition material,” said Scott Tignac, district manager for the SVLRC. “We are glad to help individuals, businesses and contractors meet standards when it comes to C&D recycling.”

In Ventura County, local laws local laws require construction projects to divert a minimum of 60 percent of their waste. The SVLRC is exceeding that goal and recycles 88 percent of the materials received.

The SVLRC accepts wood, concrete, dirt, drywall, metal, cardboard, plastic, roofing materials, appliances and tile. These materials are sorted onsite and transported to regional facilities to find a "second life" as new products.

WM's facility is located at 2801 Madera Road, just north of the 118 freeway. The facility accepts co-mingled C&D waste from the public as well as private contractors.

WM is committed to helping individuals and businesses meet their C&D recycling requirements. If you need to order containers for your construction needs, please contact Tom Jacobellis at (805) 955-4346 or email tjacobellis@wm.com.

Waste Management provides Ventura County with recycling, trash hauling and solid waste disposal through G.I. Industries and the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center. The SVLRC provides approximately 60% of Ventura County's daily refuse disposal needs. The company operates a "green power" program at the site that generates enough power for 2,500 homes, and clean-burning LNG powers 38 of its trucks. Waste Management is a significant contributor to area community groups. For more information visit our website www.keepingventuracountyclean.com.
