Press Release
SIMI VALLEY NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILMEMBERS TO TOUR
SIMI VALLEY LANDFILL & RECYCLING CENTER
SIMI VALLEY, CA, August 14, 2007 – Waste Management will be hosting the City of Simi Valley Neighborhood Council members for a first-hand look at the facility in action and for a discussion and tour of the planned expansion. Four tours will be provided for the Neighborhood Council members and interested members of the public are encouraged to come along for a tour, space permitting.
The tours were first formalized with the Simi Valley Neighborhood Council after Mayor Paul Miller requested that Waste Management keep Neighborhood Council members informed about WM’s expansion project.
“Waste Management has an open-door policy and we encourage community members to check out our facility. It’s important to us that our neighbors understand our operations and our future plans,” explained Mike Smith, Market Area General Manager for Waste Management.
The tours are only one aspect of Waste Management’s outreach to local residents. Officials from WM continue to provide updates to the Council and to the community regarding the status of the project approval process.
More information about the project can be found at: www.keepingventuracountyclean.com/expansion.html
Tours are currently scheduled for:
August 17 at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
August 18 at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
There is a limit of 20 people per tour, but more tours can be added. Members of the public are encouraged to join these tours, or schedule tours that work better with their own schedules.
Those interested in signing up for a tour should call Scott Tignac of Waste Management at 805-579-7478.
Waste Management provides Ventura County with recycling, trash hauling and solid waste disposal through G.I. Industries and the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center. Waste Management has owned and operated G.I. Industries since 1998 and the SVLRC site since 1983 and employs more than 230 people in Ventura County. The SVLRC provides approximately 60% of Ventura County's daily refuse disposal needs. The company operates a “green power” program at the site that generates enough power for 2,500 homes, and clean-burning LNG powers 38 of its trucks. Waste Management is a significant contributor to area community groups. For more information visit our website www.KeepingVenturaCountyClean.com.
