SIMI VALLEY RESIDENTS INVITED TO FREE DAY AT SIMI VALLEY LANDFILL AND RECYCLING CENTER
Popular Event Encourages Proper Disposal of Household Trash and Appliances

Simi Valley, CA, May 5, 2008 - Simi Valley residents are invited to drop off their trash, green waste and bulky items free of charge at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center on Sunday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents can bring non-hazardous, residential trash and green waste items. Certain items, including televisions, electronics, and household hazardous waste will not be accepted. Please visit our website for a full list of non-acceptable items and information on where these items can be properly disposed.

Last May, the Simi Free Residential Day yielded more than 1,100 tons of trash, green waste, dirt and concrete. In addition, WM collected 58 appliances and 100 tires from residents.

"Waste Management provides residents of Simi Valley, Moorpark and Thousand Oaks two free disposal days — one in the spring and another in the fall — each year. We want to encourage Simi Valley residents to clean up their homes and the local community by properly disposing of items," said Mike Smith, Market Area General Manager for WM of Ventura County.

The Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center is located at 2801 Madera Road in Simi Valley. The free day is a popular event with residents and to help minimize delays, please follow these guidelines:
  • Be ready with valid identification to show proof of residency to cashier.
  • All loads must be tarped pursuant to California State Law.
  • All loads are subject to inspection.
  • All commercial vehicles are subject to applicable rates unless prior arrangements have been made.
To encourage recycling efforts and reduce the amount of waste entering the landfill, there will be designated areas and containers for recycling. There also will be separate unloading areas for concrete, asphalt, green waste and construction and demolition waste. In addition, containers will be available to drop-off and recycle metal items, paper and cardboard.

The next spring free day will be for Thousand Oaks residents on Saturday, May 24 at Conejo Creek Park from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you have any additional questions, please call at (805) 579-7267 or visit our web site at www.keepingventuracountyclean.com
