Volunteers Sought for Arroyo Simi cleanup

Simi Valley Neighborhood Councils are looking for volunteers to help with the fourth annual Arroyo Simi cleanup April 29.

The event will be held at Arroyo Simi on Madera Road south of Easy Street. Last year, volunteers removed more than 5 tons of trash that otherwise would have made its way to the ocean. Participants included teams from local businesses, schools, civic organizations, churches, community groups and concerned residents.

This year, Neighborhood Councils are working with Waste Management as part of the Great American Cleanup, which runs from March 1 to May 31. It includes organizations all over the state coming together to pitch in.

Participants should wear work clothes, sturdy shoes or rubber boots, and bring digging tools, gloves and hats. Check-in will be at the Country Floral parking lot on Moreland Road.

Release of liability waivers will be available on-site. Children under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian's signature to participate. The cleanup is a fairly strenuous physical activity and is not recommended for the very young or the physically challenged. For information or waiver forms, call Emily Habib, Neighborhood Council coordinator, at 583-6756.
